Vintage Navajo Sterling Silver Turquoise & Coral Belt Buckle By H.y. │rs Bi For Sale
Up for sale is a vintage Native American Navajo sterling silver turquoise and coralbelt buckle by H.Y.
Native Americans from the southwest have paired turquoise with red materials in their jewelry for a long time. Its a beautiful combination of colors and contrast and rooted in symbolic meaning. Coral is not found in any ocean of the Americas. Therefore any "red gold," (often called by some artists) that was used in jewelry would have come to the Americas through trade or "Wampum" (trade beads) after the Spanish Conquistadors arrived in 1521. The bright red Mediterranean coral is rare today.
Applique is a technique that consists of soldering one or more decorative metal design elements on top of another, these elements are solid sterling silver.
The buckle measures 2-9/16" long and 1-3/4" wide.
This buckle can accommodate a 1" wide belt and weighs 30.8g.
The buckle has "Sterling" and the maker's hallmark "H.Y." stamped on the back and it has been tested and examined for purity and is sterling silver. In addition, there are no test marks or cosmetic damage on the piece.
