Up for sale is a lovely vintage Olds Special tenor trombone. The slide of this horn has the serial number 470405 while the bell has the number 193. This instrument plays well, and is constructed from a combination of solid nickel silver, yellow brass, and rose brass, giving this horn a bright, full sound and quick response that make it a very fine lead horn for jazz and other applications. As for the aesthetic condition of this horn, there are several small dings throughout the instrument, mostly on the throat of the bell, and there is also a small amount of plating wear on the slide stockings, which causes the slide to whisper when in motion. There is some scratching on the tuning slide and a large area of slide rash on the bell flare from the original Olds case as is common with these horns. The slide moves well enough to play, but feels grainy, and there is evidence of dent removal at the bow on the end.This instrument has had the old lacquer removed, both to improve the appearance of the instrument, as well as its tone. Therefore, this instrument is pure brass, and may have to be polished every few months, if played often.This trombone comes with a mouthpiece and a brand new ultralight case.
