Up for sale is a fantastic vintage Zuni sterling silver Kingman turquoise bolo tie handmade by Native American silversmiths Robert and Bernice Leekya!

Robert and Bernice Leekya (Zuni) were married February 15, 1953. Robert\'s father was Leekya Deyuse. He was a fetish carver who wanted to teach Robert to carve stone, but he was not interested. Bernice\'s parents were Warren & Doris Ondelacy. She had one sister, Alice Quam, and two brothers, Andy & William. It was in the 1930s when Bernice started putting turquoise on sticks for her parents. That was her first introduction to jewelry making. Her parents influenced them. They work together, both will do silver and stone work. They began with cluster work and still do that on the side, but they prefer to do big stone work. Robert Leekya is always adorned with natural gem turquoise (usually Kingman turquoise). Robert and Bernice have been making fine Zuni jewelry for over 50 years.

The Kingman mine in northwestern Arizona was one of the largest turquoise mines in North America. The terms \"Kingman\" or \"high blue\" refer to the blue color usually displayed in this stone. It has become a color standard in the industry. The mine became famous for its rounded, bright blue nuggets with black matrix. Few turquoise mines produced nuggets, especially of this quality. Old natural Kingman Turquoise is rare.

The bolo measures 2-7/8\"long and 2\"wide.The cord measures 40\" long from end to end including the sterling silvertips that measure 3 1/4\" long.Entire weight of tie is 84.6g. The back of the bolo is stamped with \"sterling\" and the maker\'s hallmark. Has The bolo is strung on a black genuine leather braided cord. In very good vintage condition with a nice patina.
