Wonderful vintage Rubens Originals Jesus Infant of Prague planter/vase, circa 1950\'s. The exact origin of the Infant Jesus statue is not known. The statue first appeared in 1556, when Maria Manriquez de Lara brought the image to Bohemia as a wedding heirloom to Czech nobleman Vratislav of Pernstyn. It\'s history can be traced back to Prague in the year 1628. The statue\'s right hand\'s two fingers are raised in a blessing gesture to symbolize the two natures of Jesus Christ while the three folded fingers represent the Holy Trinity. It is beautifully handpainted in red, blue, white, and gold. Mostly identified with the Roman Catholic Religion, it is an iconic image of devotion. This piece is in excellent condition for it\'s vintage. The gold accent painting has slight wear on some of the protruding points. It bears the original \"Rubens Originals\" foil tag as well as the company\'s green logo, including the number of the piece, # 128. There is crazing throughout, however no chips or cracks. The stature measures approx. 8 1/8\" and approx. 3 1/4\" wide. The opening of the vase area is approx. 3 1/2\" deep X 3\".
