Vintage/antique Russian Orthodox medal made of bronze/brass or similar copper alloy circa mid-1800s to early 1900s. The medal has some brown patina. The images are mildly worn out, but the medal is structurally sound, and the necklace loop is well preserved.
The medal is double sided.
The obverse bears an iconic image of Saint Seraphim of Sarov (Russian: Serafim Sarovskiy), one of the most renowned and venerated Russian saints. He taught that the purpose of Christian life wad to acquire the Holy Spirit. His popular quotation is \"Acquire a peaceful spirit, and thousands around you will be saved\". Pope St. John Paul II referred to him as a saint.
The reverse of the medal bears a Sacred image of the Blessed Virgin Mary as the Russian \"Umilenie\" icon of the Theotokos. Saint Seraphim of Sarov called this icon \"Joy of all Joys\", and died while kneeling before this icon aged 73.
