You have found a vintage paperweight, featuring a tall ship/sailing ship. I have reason to believe that it may have been produced from a W.P.A. mold, as I have a similar, larger, one that I am sure was. The W.P.A. was created during the Great Depression, so that those who needed assistance for themselves or their families would be able to work for their assistance, rather than just having things handed to them. The idea was for those who were down on their luck to be able to gain a sense of pride in working for the betterment of themselves and their communities, and many of our roads and bridges, for instance, were built with W.P.A. workers. Again, I cannot be 100% certain that this is the background of this paperweight, but I have reason to believe it is. Either way, this is obviously an old paperweight, and very unusual in its design.Please be aware that this paperweight is not in perfect condition. See the Condition Description for details. However, as it is quite unusual and beautiful, I feel that the right buyer will be able to see past its flaws, and remain interested in it.The weight measures 3\" in diameter, and weighs just over 1 pound.Please be aware that the lighted paperweight stand featured in some of the pictures is not included in this sale.
