Vintage Santo Domingo Kewa Tapered Bead Strand Necklace Pipestone Jet Turquoise:

Up for sale is a vintage strand of Santo Domingo / Kewa beads fashioned into a necklace. It is comprised of stone (pipestone/catlinite, turquoise, jet), pen shell heishi, (threaded over original white twisted) cording, silver (coin grade or better: center seam beads, cone caps, wire, plus j-hook and 8-shape bolt clasping closure). The beads range from 3 mm to 10 mm, some \'wedge\' cut so that the beads are smooth to the touch when run between the finger tips and lend the strand super nice proportion...some shape not just a thin consistent width, if you know what I mean. End to end the necklace measures 16 1/8\" long and weighs over one ounce (32+ g) on a digital scale prior to packing. Sourcedfrom a San Francisco Bay area vintage wares market beyond this I have no real history on these beads.

Please refer to images for your take on age, design and condition. I guess them to have some age, probably from the 1970\'s, give or take. Visually they have a strong and striking presentation by size and in all deeper tones (no buff or bone colored elements) with a smooth graduated taper end to end; they\'ve been threaded up perfectly for a good even hand and hang when worn. The necklace has not been washed; the silver beads, cones and clasp have oxidation, overall it is in extremely good condition without issues of note.I think High buyer will be pleased.
