This is a listing for a vintage Santo Domingo pueblo necklace strung with hand carved tab shaped spiny oyster beads and accented with turquoisenuggets. It\'s strung on heavy cotton.
Dimensions: 24 inches in length. The beaded section alone runs 16.5 inches and the necklace weighs 85 grams. So this is a generous substantial necklace. The beads are graduated in size the the longest beads are 1 and 1/8th inches in length and the shortest beads .5 inches in length. The graduation is seamless and perfect…a sign of a talented bead artist.Condition & Style: It\'s rare to find an entire necklace strung entirelywith spiny oyster tab shaped beads. I purchased it with a small collection of very high quality Santo Domingo necklaces. It\'s finished with silver beads and cones that tested as silver plate. Many vintage pueblo necklaces are finished with tied string or a wrap, with quite a few featuring stunning beads but a plain barrel clasp, the focus being on the beads, their quality, arrangement and stringing material. The silver beads and cones that finish this piece are well made with lightly stamped detail. And it closes with a traditional hook and eye clasp. The beads are of the highest quality material and expertly cut and polished, with no missing or damaged beads on the strand.
The spiny oyster is a brilliant true orange, each one hand shaped and polished. The photos speak for themselves…you just can\'t take a bad photo of these beads. Their color and polish is truly stunningly beautiful. Usually you see a turquoise necklace with a spiny oyster bead accent. So the artist created a luxurious piece with an all spiny necklace and beautiful turquoise nugget accents. There are 7 of them in abrilliant blue color and their contrast next to the spiny oyster, both in color and shape, along with their perfect placement, reallybrings out the beauty of the shell.
