Vintage Set Of Three Small Toby Mugs – Pirate, Shakespeare & Colonial Gentleman:
This is a vintage set of three toby mugs or figural ceramic mugs modeled in the form of popular, historical or fictional characters, and in this case, in head form. Included in this set is a pirate (3” H x 3 ¼” W), William Shakespeare (2 ½” H x 3” W) and a colonial-period gentleman (2 3/8” H x 3 ¾” W). The pirate mug is unmarked and the gentleman mug was made in Japan. The English pottery, Lancasters Ltd. of Hanley, England, was the maker of the Shakespeare mug. The mark on this mug dates this piece to sometime between 1938 and 1944. With the exception of two chips on the rim of the pirate mug, a chip on the rim of the gentlemen mug, crazing and slight paint wear, all three of these small toby mugs are in very good condition with no other evidence of damage.
