Vintage Italian Sterling Silver Engrave Decorated Lipstick Holding Compact Vanity Mirror circa 1950s
This Vintage Vanity Mirror Compact measures approximately 5 1/2 inches or 138 mm across its length from the end of the handle when the lipstick holder is in place to the top of the mirrors body by 5/8 of an inch or 16 mm across the width of its handle from side to side and it is just over 2 5/8 inches or 68 mm across the width of the mirrors body from side to side, it is 7/8 of an inch or 22 mm deep across from the lipstick button to the opposite side of the handle and it is 3/8 of an inch or 9 mm deep from the front of the mirror to the back of its body when closed.
The compact mirror body and lipstick holder are made from sterling silver with an engine turn engraved body and handle that has also been embossed or raised relief decorated, the handle has a removable lipstick holder within its end that has a red cabochon stone set sliding button to extend and retract the internal lipstick and it has a bevel edged mirror or looking glass within the outer lid of the compact, the upper body of the mirror has a five section piano hinged lid that has an engraved and relief scrolled foliate decorated thumb or finger catch on its lower rim and this opens to reveal an internal powder compact that has another bevel edged mirror or looking glass within the inner lid, the powder compact still has its original removable internal powder gauze and the compact vanity mirror has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram, the inner body of the powder compact has been impressed with a European 925 standard sterling silver mark all as photographed below and I estimate that this lipstick holding compact vanity mirror was made in Italy circa 1950's.
Thecondition is used and Excellent for its age.
The compact vanity mirror has No Large Dents, No Splits, No Cracks, No Holes and No Repairs that I can find, the mirrors have no chips, no cracks and no foxing, the hinge is working perfectly, the mirrored compact lid opens and clicks tightly closed with ease, thelipstick holder is a perfect fit and it is working perfectly, the decoration and definition is crisp, the sterling silver mark is still clearly legible although as this is a used vintage compact vanity mirror it does have the odd tiny shallow dent in its outer body that is so small it's hardly worth mentioning and it has some extremely minor surface marks and wear from use, it has the patina of age that is to be expected and a gentle clean would enhance it greatly. Personally I think that this vintage Italian lipstick holding compact vanity mirror can still be used today and that it would make a superb addition to any collection, I also think that it looks fantastic considering that it's around 60 or so years old.
