950 is 95% pure silver and 5% other metal compounds,

960 is 96% pure silver and 4% other metal compounds,

970 is 97% pure silver and 3% other metal compounds,

980 is 98% pure silver and 2% other metal compounds.

I do not clean my charms or vintage jewelry they are presented just as they were found. All Charms that look new and shiny are not new but have a rhodium finish to keep them from tarnishing. Not all older sterling is marked. Rhodium plated- some sterling silver jewelry is plated with rhodium. This is designed to make your jewelry tarnish resistant. Clean it with a soft polishing rag or fine cleaner, but never use chemical based silver cleaners because this will damage the rhodium finish.
