Vintage Turquoise, Sterling Navajo Necklace/Rare “Blue Gem” Nevada/Large Stones:

Vintage sterling and turquoise Navajo crafted necklace, with 3 very largecabochons, which a turquoise dealer told me was most likely“Blue Gem” turquoise from the Battle Mountain area in Nevada. They are beautifully polished, natural, and a wonderful sky blue color.
Stones are set on and backed with sterling silver, and strung with handmade beads on a chain or fox tail. The stones measure 1 1/2” x 1 1/4” for the largest, 1 1/2” L for the more triangular piece, and 1 1/4” x 1” for the smallest. Necklace is 16 1/2” around.
Research shows that the Blue Gem mine was discovered in 1934 and its turquoiseproduction was a great influence during the infancy of the Indian jewelry industry in the early to mid-twentieth century, until the mine closed in the 1970’s. Since it is no longer an active mine, the turquoise is said to be quite collectible.
