This listing is for a vintage WWII EE-8 field telephone that was actually used in the war by the US Army Signal Corps.  Included in this listing is the EE-8 field phone, Kellogg Switchboard Supply Company Model TS-9-K black Bakelite handset, battery, and leather case with shoulder strap.  The EE-8 field phone was the standard field phone from before World War II through the Vietnam War.   It was housed in leather through WWII, then canvas, and its last production had a nylon case and straps.

The EE-8 Field Telephone was standardized in 1932 and procurement began in 1937, providing a lighter and more functional unit just in time for the huge mobilization of the U.S. military for WW II.

The EE-8 was a portable 10lb phone that replaced the telegraph and Flag signals as a more effective and efficient way for commanders and troops to keep in touch on the battlefield. Two phones could be wired directly together or several phones could be connected to a common operator, enabling any one phone to be in contact with any other in the group.  A hand-generated crank on the side of the phone was turned in order to signal another phone or the operator.  The signal range between these rugged, self-contained phones varied according to the type of wire used to connect them, and the conditions in which the wire was situated (wet, dry, air, ground), but generally averaged about 15 miles. However, a direct, point-to-point connection made with copper wire could extend the range up to an astounding 360 miles.

At the end of the war, the government’s glut of surplus EE-8’s were sold to civilian households as a way for mom to call dad. who was tinkering out in the garage, to let him know dinner was ready.

This will make a wonderful addition to your WWII or military memorabilia collection.

Condition:  We have no way of testing the phone to see if it works, so it is being sold as is.  The strap on the leather case is included, but is broken and non-functional.  The leather case is stamped, but is no longer readable.  The soldier who this was issued to wrote his name in black marker pen on the leather case, but it is also no longer readable.
