Vintage ashtray WWI era German Reichstags Gebaude heavy brass Berlin Hitler 281:

Very rare ashtray, vintageheavy brass ashtray depicting the Reichstagsgebaude building in Berlin. This bldg. was occupied by the Nazis up until it was severly damaged by fire in 1933. It was then occupied again during WWII world war two .

In great condition, with no chips, cracks, or bad damage. measures about 6\" x 5 1/2\". there are markings on the back that are kind of hard to read, but I can make out the initials; A.Z. and the number 281. There are some other words that look like; ges. geschutz (or something close to that).

A great conversation piece for the den, bar, or coffee table. cigarette/ cigar indentations, that is also practical and functional.

The pictures do not do this piecejustice. Very, very nice.

I am currently living in Europe and will be shipping the item via APO, so please allow about 2 weeks for delivery. Check out my other awesome ashtrays (aschenbecher) up for sale.

Please see below for a brief history of the Reichstag Building in Berlin.. After the fire, the main dome was replaced with a smaller one, thus I know that the picture on the ashtray shows the original design, which dates this piece as between 1894 and 1933.

The Reichstag building (German: Reichstagsgebäude; officially: Plenarbereich Reichstagsgebäude) is a historical edifice in Berlin, Germany, constructed to house the Imperial Diet (German: Reichstag), of the German Empire. It was opened in 1894 and housed the Diet until 1933, when it was severely damaged in a fire. After World War II, the building fell into disuse; the parliament of the German Democratic Republic (the Volkskammer) met in the Palast der Republik in East Berlin, while the parliament of the Federal Republic of Germany (the Bundestag) met in the Bundeshaus in Bonn.

The ruined building was made safe against the elements and partially refurbished in the 1960s, but no attempt at full restoration was made until after German reunification on 3 October 1990, when it underwent a reconstruction led by architect Norman Foster. After its completion in 1999, it once again became the meeting place of the German parliament: the modern Bundestag.

The term Reichstag, when used to connote a diet, dates back to the Holy Roman Empire. The building was built for the Diet of the German Empire, which was succeeded by the Reichstag of the Weimar Republic. The latter would become the Reichstag of Nazi Germany, which left the building (and ceased to act as a parliament) after the 1933 fire and never returned
