Vintage fauxred coral clasp / pin / brooch. Made in Japan. The discoloration in the crevaces made me think this was natural coral, but I did the milk test and it definitely is some kind of plastic. Then I used Simichrome to test and it produced little red specks on the cloth so I learned this was an indicator of Lucite. My thanks to another seller here for her knowledge! She also told me the stamp on the back indicated it was from the 1960\'s I wondered if this had glue on the back of it and that making it into a clasp was an afterthought. I simply don\'t know. This is from the same stash of jewelry from the estate of my friend\'s 100 year old mother... that is, she passed last year at that age. The color of it is more true on the second photo... that is, it isn\'t quite as deep a red as it appears in the first photo.. more of a dark salmon hue. It is 2 1/2\" across. It weighs 12 grams.
