This lovely sewing machine is a Singer Model#15U158, ser#TC216749. The \"U\" in the model number and the \"TC\" prefix in the serial number indicate that it was made in their Utsunomiya,Japan factory in 1956. From what I have read about this location, most of the machines made there stayed in Japan, only about 15% were exported so this is a rather unusual find.. The decals and finish on this machine are just beautiful - this machine would make a great display piece. There are a few spots that could use a bit more polishing and I think you probably would want to replace the stitch length indicator plate since it has lost paint (also I believe it is missing a small screw that would go on the left side of the plate). There are a few surface scuffs on the motor which do not impact its function.The brass plate with the singer emblem and the red \"S\" is especially attractive. You\'ll notice that the machine has a spoked wheel, usually found on treadle machines - perhaps like many machines made over here it was originally a treadle then later converted to electric?You might say this machine is \"bilingual\" in that the power cord has the rounded prongs made for use in Japanese outlets. Not to worry though, you\'ll also see the adapter I purchased so that you can plug it in and run it in your U.S. outlets with no trouble at all. I have replaced the back plate with another vintage model 15 back plate as the original was quite tarnished. I have also replaced the original bobbin case for the same reason (replacement was purchased from my local Singer dealer)I have not sewn with this machine (I\'m not familiar enough with the model 15\'s to know how to thread and adjust it properly). I have plugged it and and run it and the motor practically flies, everything moves smoothly both forward and in reverse. That being said, like most vintage machines that have not been used in a while, it would be reasonable to assume that it might need some adjusting either by yourself or a service technician before it\'s ready to sew perfectly. I did not have the machine serviced prior to listing as that would add cost to the item and also because many people who enjoy the vintage machines are also quite handy working with them.Be sure and check out the zoom pictures so you can take in all the detail of this lovely and unusual machine.If you are local, you are welcome to arrange pick-up to save on shipping costs. As anyone familiar with vintage sewing machines knows, these machines can be heavy and the shipping somewhat costly.
