Lovely vintage late 30s or early 40s, unprinted pattern for a dress with smartly tailored bodice details. Companion-Butterick 7823 Bust 30 Size 12. This is a frock for Women and Misses, with five-piece flared skirt attached at natural waistline. The front of the bodice can be made either cut on the bias or straight grain of fabric. The envelope is in typical vintage condition: minimal edge wear with a few tiny edge splits and a couple of small tears at the top corners. The pattern and primer (deltor) are complete and in good shape and the envelope graphics are still beautiful. Fun Fact: the term DELTOR was coined by the Butterick company. It is short for \"DELineaTOR\", a term they used for the printed primer sheet, which they copyrighted. They were the first company to include an enlarged, illustrated construction sheet with clear step by step directions with their patterns. They started doing so in about 1921. I can\'t find a copyright date for this pattern. Own a piece of fashion history and wear it too! Classic style is always in fashion. Once again, this is not a printed pattern! A quick word about unprinted patterns: These predate patterns with the cutting lines and markings printed on them. The pattern pieces are already cut to size. The marking are designated by holes punched in the paper and notches cut in along the edges. The upside is that the pattern does not need to be trimmed before placing it on the fabric. The holes make it easy to transfer markings to fabric without tearing the pattern. You can just make tailor tacks right through them! It may seem intimidating at first, but once you get the hang of it, the new experience in sewing is worth it. Definitely read the primer very carefully before getting started. There is a lot of information packed onto, usually, one page. This was an effort to save paper as these patterns date from the depression through WWII. Another paper saver was to include dimensions for square or rectangular pattern pieces (such as pockets, welts, belts, ruffles, etc.) so you could make the pattern piece yourself or trace the dimensions directly onto the fabric. So if it appears at first that there are pattern pieces missing, go back and look at the pattern piece diagram and then read through the instructions on the pattern layout page. That is usually where the dimensions will be given for pieces that you are to make yourself. I suppose folks were meant to be more self-sufficient and resourceful in those days! It really makes you realize how tough times were and how valuable these patterns must have been to the original owners. It is a privilege to me to be able help find these little pieces of history a new curator: someone who appreciates them and allows them to come back to life as either as a new outfit, or a treasured part of a collection!Use the bust measurement to determine the size you need. Pattern sizes do not correspond to retail ready-to-wear sizes. Take bust measurement across the widest part of your back and around fullest part of you bust. This will not be the same as your bra size, which is the band measurement just under the bust. There are many tutorials available on the internet if you need more information. Please Note: I\'d like buyers to understand that these patterns are Vintage. As such, they are not pristine. Even those items that are in great shape considering their age will have some minor flaws simply due to age and general use of the item. Old patterns usually have discoloration, foxing, tears, splits, writing, stamps, stickers, pinholes, or \"old book\" smell (I do not mean mildewy. That is something I would specifically mention) to some degree. I do my best to describe my items as accurately as possible and to the best of my ability, flaws and all. What I may consider to be a gorgeous and interesting vintage item, may not meet your same criteria. I think the notes written on the patterns by those who used them so long ago add such character and life. To me, these patterns smell like a library and remind me of story-time in elementary school. I do not attempt to clean, restore, or repair vintage items because I would not want to damage them nor interfere with the story they have to tell. I will leave that decision to you. Please keep all of this in mind when you are offerding on my sales and remember that vintage is just that...Vintage!
I gladly ship internationally to selected countries. International buyers are responsible for all shipping, duties and taxes. Shipping fees are calculated upon checkout and are not part of my free shipping offer. If additional fees, duties, or taxes are levied by the country of destination they are still the responsibility of the buyer to pay. Free shipping is only for domestic shipping within the U.S. I cannot offer returns/refunds to international buyers, all sales final.
