The frame itself is 5 1/4 x 6 1/4\" and holds a 3 x 4\" picture. Bottom of frame is signed M W Carr & Co Inc. It has the glass and is made to stand. Good condition

M. W. Carr & Co. was the country\'s leading manufacturer of jewelry, picture frames, mirrors and novelties in the late nineteenth century.
When Martin W. Carr, the founder of the company erected this Italianate brick facility in Somerville in 1894 on the site of an earlier basket factory, he strove to have the manufacturing building embody the company\'s commitment to high workmanship and efficient work process.
Martin W. Carr began producing jewelry, picture frames and novelties in Somerville in 1880. The MW Carr Company was one of the first pioneers to initiate employee ownership and profit sharing.By the early 20th century, with offices nationwide as well as in London, Martin W. Carr\'s firm was the largest plant of its kind, manufacturing novelties and fancy metal goods, including pewter and silverware, photo frames and gift merchandise. This frame is a piece of history as well as a rare and lovely piece of art.
