Vintage Mid-Century Geode Style Fused Crackle Glass Gazing Pond Studio Art Pottery Bowl

Free-form, rippled clay pottery bowl is a rustic brown and earth tone taupe & tan, and has a mosaic, geode-style crackle glass interior bottom of blue-green & brown stained glass pieces, along with a milky ribbon glazed over with a clear glossy glaze. This gives an illusion of depth, almost like gazing into a crystal pond. Look at the pictures for a better description, since I feel my words are not doing justice to the beautiful bowl.

In VERY GOOD CONDITION ~ No nicks, chips, cracks, or damage. There are a couple of scratches/rough spots in the mosaic on the bottom of the bowl that can be felt, but nothing to detract from appearance. Light, mild crazing under the glaze.

The bottom bears the following, handwritten in white:

A.M.O.

CAMP OMIYA

JULY 1956

I believe this indicates the former owner, rather than the maker, who may have received this piece as a gift while stationed at Camp Omiya in 1956. I am uncertain of the origin of the piece, but it is very similar in style to some of the pieces designed by various California potteries of the era.

I found this at an estate sale which had a number of collectibles from Japan during this time period.From research I have done, it appears that Camp Omiya was a Military Camp in Saitama City, Japan occupied by the United States Armed Forces during that time period.

Measures 9 1/2\" x 7 1/2\" x 3 1/4\" tall.

It should be a lovelyfor a collection, or would be a great stand-alone piece as well.
