This is 1 of 2 WWII 5 Gal gas cans that were found at a local estate sale. This can is dated 20-5-45 (May 20, 1945) on bottom. Can has been painted blue and marked for gas. You can see the military green color coming thru the blue paint in several places. There is no rust on can, and inside is extremely clean. Somewhere alongthe line someone as painted the \"X\" orange and wrote \"GAS\" on this can.Can has the letter \'G\" stamped into top of one side,and the letters \"Q.M.C.\" (Quarter Masters Corps.) stamped in bottom of same side. On other side of can is is stamped USA near bottom of panel. This can has white stenciling on one side reading \"35 POUNDS NET-RPM-REG. US PAT.--GEAR LUBRICANT (compounded)-SAE 90-- C1447R. Stenciled in white lettering near bottom of panel it reads: Standard Oil Co. California-San Francisco. This can also comes with a pouring spout. Stamped into bottom of can it reads: 20-5-45 RHEEM ICC 5 L. This canis a neat piece of military history that can still be used with no problems, as well as a neat advertising piece from the Standard Oil Company of San Francisco, California.
