W.W.II U.S.N. MARK I KNIFE IDENTIFIED TO A MARINE
The knife is unmarked as issued. The blade retains about 75% of the original parkerizing. There are a couple of nicks on the bottom of the blade. The handle is in fine condition with red, white and blue colors in the slots. The leather scabbard is in very good to fine condition. It has been darkened from a light brown to a dark brown/black color. This was typical of most Marines who had light colored holsters or sheaths. The sheath is etched on the front \"U.S. MARINE\". On the bottom, it has a USMC collar insignia. On the back of the scabbard, is the man\'s name and information as follows \"Richard F. Hollatz, USMC, 930412, 12-5-1943 to 9-4-46\". It would be interesting to research this person. It appears he could have been overseas from mid-1944 through the end of the war and did occupation duty. During this time, the battle for Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and other major battles were fought. This is a fine and interesting combat knife.
