WELL CARVED 19C CHINESE SPECIALTY STAND IN HONGMU WOOD OF A FLOWERING PLUM TREE:

Description... For your consideration is presented a well carved 19c Chinese HongMu wood display stand with the front designed as a flowering plum tree. This stand was produced in China during the second half of the 19c and although it resembles a plate stand, but on closer inspection the groove or area that the plate would sit is carved to hold what would appear to be a type of a leaf shaped porcelain dish or perhaps a jade or hardstone brush washer of that shape. The way the back stand is angled it would allow for such a piece to be appreciated as one could see the whole piece instead of a normal flat stand. The nice thing is that there are many possibilities and the quality of carving is fabulous showing a centered flowering plum tree that spreads all over the front, top and sides of the carved area. The stand has a great color tone and surface patina showing great age and quality.
Condition...The stand is in good condition with one of the rear scrolled feet repaired and a chip on one end edge of the top groove otherwise a wonderful stand.
