Gavel

This is a very early 19th century GAR Gavel

On side is punch pressed G A R with a style of script that places it was probably made just after the Civil War ended. Circa 1866 ~ 1875

There is an additional \"A\" impressed at the top of the handle shaft. We are not sure what this indicates. Possibly there were more than one gavel and this was for the leader. Thus \"B\" would have been the second in command.

The patina is amazing. It is rare that a gavel such as this is found and offered for sale.
