WW1, Anti-Aircraft Fire, Enemy Planes, German Novelty Mechanical Postcard (4002):
$49.53

A rare original vintage WW1 German novelty mechanical postcard showing \"German Anti-Aircraft Fire Against Enemy Aircraft\".
The card was posted.
The postcard was published c1915 in Germany. The postcard is both hand-dated and postmarked but the posting year is unclear. This postcard is approximately 103-years-old.[a rough Google translation of the verse...]\"Oh, how funny it rattles,
And how it rattles like hell,
And as they fall from the heights,
the Master and the Monsieur\"\"Berfendung nur innerhalb Deutschlands zulässig!\" [Trans: \"Only permitted within Germany!\"]
\"Genehmigt: Stellvertretendes Generalkommando III\" [Trans: \"Approved: Deputy General Command III\"]This is a rare German mechanical postcard. It is partially working. There are (were!) three moving inserts within the postcard that were operated by turning the knurled wheel at the side. The top insert was a plane that descended from the clouds [this is seen in the scan] and this is still working. The second inset was a oscillating turning circle of flashes around the gun muzzle. This part is still present within the postcard and could perhaps be gently eased back into position. The third inset (positioned above the kneeling soldier, and possibly \'feeding bullets\' into the gun) appears to be missing but most of the supporting and springed mechanism appears to be intact. The postcard is constructed from two pieces of card with the workings concealed within. The right hand edge (the one with the knurled wheel) has separated and gives access to the inner workings, the other three sides are fully closed. The small metal pivot has come detached from the front of the card, tearing a small hole in the centre of the gun. I am rating this postcard as \'Good\' not on the condition of the inner mechanism but on the appearance of the image on the front of the postcard.Condition Rated: \"Good (G)\" (\'Noticeable defects, handling and wear apparent. Slight creasing and minor postal damage not detrimental to image acceptable in this category.\') using the PTA Grading System. Additional information: a generally clean and unmarked printed image, some nicotine-fingered hazing to borders commensurate with age and handling, minor undulations resulting from the inner mechanism (both sides), faint album impressions, reasonable corners with minor wear to points, the back appears somewhat grubby from handling. Otherwise as scans. Please use the high-definition scans provided to help determine and confirm the condition of this postcard.+++ I am listing a new batch ofFirst World War postcards.
