Own A Pair Of The OriginalsPlease read all of thediscriptionbefore offerdingA little History... Up for sale: a rare pair of 100% authentic WW2 B&L Aviator Pilot's sunglasses, made by the Bausch & Lomb Co. in Rochester NY. These are the original government issued aviator sunglasses for the USN and USAAF during WW2, model AN6531. Born in the mid 1930's these glasses were developed by the air force to accommodate the pilots during the 2nd world war. Since pilots were constantly looking down at their instrument panel while in flight, this necessity gave birth to the teardrop "aviator" shape lens. Bausch and Lomb was one of the few companies to be contracted by the US government to create these glasses. Bausch and Lomb then incorporated the new design to create the Ray Ban line of sunglasses. These glasses are considered the 1st generation of Bausch and Lomb "aviator" sunglasses, thus the birth of the "Ray Ban" line of sunglasses, and the creation of the "aviator" style of glasses we see today.Description of the glasses in the sale. These glasses are in very good condition. These are in wearing or display condition. The lenses on these glasses are made of dark green rock glass and are thepioneered "Anti Glare" type featured in all Bausch & Lomb lenses. The Bakelite sweat band and nose pads arecompletelyintact with some oxidation in some spots and on the edges of the sweat brow. The glasses fit comfortably and can be worn for every day use. The frames are in good condition. They are straight and symmetrical, not appearing to require any manipulation for wearing and fit comfortably. They are strong and sturdy and retain 90% of their original nickeling. The temples arestraight and thehinges move freely and the screws are not mutilated. The Bakelite nose pads and sweat brow are an evencreamycarmel color and are free of cracks and are 100% intact. The lenses are in good conditionhavingNO chips, NO cracks, and No visible scratches. Just the light cleaning abrasions from use but Iwouldn'tconsiderthem scratches and they are in no wayvisiblewhen waring. The lenses are also tight in the frames and do not rattle around. The frames under the brow support show the "Bausch & Lomb" trade mark. The reverse side of each nose pad has B&L markings. Overall length of the frames measuring from hinge to hinge is 5-1/2". The lenses measure 58mm across. The glasses come complete with their original metal case and original packing slip! The case is in very good condition opening and closing with a tight snap and having all of the original felt liner intact.
