Nice example of the M1904 soft backed curry issued pre WWI. The curry differs from the M1885 model only slightly. In 1903, the military switched many of their leather goods from black to russet. This curry is stamped on the back under the hand strap with ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL. In 1908, a hoof pick was added to one end, otherwise the curry remained the same. It has 7 rows of teeth, and one dust bar across the center. It is leather backed, and has a leather hand strap. There are some unit numbers, I believe a B and the number 15, although they do appear to be overlaid on an earlier number. There are also some lightly scratched in initials on the back at the top. The US Cartouche on the back is clear and legible. There are some patches of light scratches around the handle on the back of the curry. As could be well expected from a horse brush 114 years old, there is some light rust evident, and some slight misalignment of the teeth. All in all, the leather is good, has responded to conditioner, and is losing most of its stiffness. There are, however, a few dings and scratches as could well be expected from an item that lived around a horse and in military use
