This is a 17-1/2\" replica of the Cossack dagger/Caucasian shashka worn by the Imperial Cossack troops during WWI. The shashka is a guardless weapon. The shashka originated among the mountain tribes of the Caucasus in the 12th century.Later most of the Russian and Ukrainian Cossacks adopted the weapon. Two styles of shashka exist: the Caucasian shashka and the Cossack shashka. Like most medieval and then imperial Russian weaponry of the time, often the shashka and its scabbard were very ornately decorated. This replica shashka is quite ornate as is the scabbard. Both are well made with Russian cyrillic characters. Wooden display stand included.
