Here is more more info I was given about the sword. The blade is approximately 500 years old.The fittings are ww2, the blade is an old ancesteral one, usually a family heirloom that was given to an officer in the family. he or his father would have removed the old edo period handle, guard etc and taken the blade to an official army fitter who would have confirmed it was going to fit into regulation size mounts and then made all the parts as a custom fit. They are known as Gunto mounts.

The cutting edge is approximately 23\". I\'ve been told it\'s probably not a Mantetsu because of the blood groove on the blade which makes it even more rare.
I have decided not to ship the sword using the global shipping program because many countries are not supported as long with weapons, but since I was opted in at the time of listing I am not able to opt out now.
