Battle of Waterloo Button c.1815

After Napoleon Bonaparte was defeated at the \"Battle of Waterloo\" by the Duke of Wellington in 1815, the English people commemorated this historic day by making special buttons with his name on the back.
This near MINT example measures 22mm and has a gold finish on both sides and is called a \"backnamed button\" since the fronts where always undecorated and the backs would have the historic event emphasized (see pgs. 413 & 420 in Albert\'s......the Lafayette & General Jackson backname buttons of the 1820\'s.......the later US versions).
This button says \"WELLINGTON\" in very large letters (see close-up photo). If you collect very rare War of 1812 buttons then this would make a great addition since many English Officers would have worn such an example.
