You’re offerding on a marked W.A.S. Benson English Arts & Craftsbrass and copper inkstand or inkwell, circa 1889. It’s design or model number 553A and marked withBenson on the bottom. This is a brassurn-shaped inkwell with a hinged cover on a foliate copper tray.

I believe this Ink Stand was featured in Ian Hamerton’s book: “WAS Benson – Arts and Crafts Luminary andPioneer of Modern Design” on page 255 plate 30.

It measures approximately 7” diameter across the base and 5” high.

It’s in very good condition with some light scratches, minortarnishing and a very small split by the mark and screw on the bottom. It does not have the original glass inkpotinsert and the screw on the bottom might not be original??? It also has some felt pads on the bottom, which could easily be removed. Please see photos for reference.

W. A. S. Benson,(1854-1924)Hammersmith, London, c1880-1920 made art metalware for table use and for oil,gas and electric lighting fittings. He was closely associated withWilliam Morris and the Arts and Crafts Movement. Benson products wereretailed through Morris & Co. for interior designers and he also had hisown shop in Bond Street, London for some time.

Most of my items are listed on multiple sites, and I willremove it from here is there’s a offer or offer elsewhere.
