WEBB CAIRNGORM, STUART AND SONS, PEACOCK EYE TRAILS, TORNADO CABINET VASE, GREEN:
$395.00

For saleis a lovely vase made by Stuart and Sons or Thomas Webb & Sons in the region of Stourbridge, England. The vase is a nice cabinet sizeas it stands 4 3/4\" tall and has a diameter of 2 1/2\" outside ruffle measurement. It is a trefoil form so the opposing rim measurement is at the outermost ruffle measurement to an inward ruffle. The top rim takes up a space of about 3\" overall if you are trying to fit it on a narrow shelf. The foot of the vase has a diameter of2 1/8\". The base glass isgreenin color that is similar to Loetz Creta Vesuvian vases or Thomas Webb\'s Bronzeware, however the applied decoration is more like Stuart and Sons. My research shows only 1 piece that I can find with iridescence from Stuart and Sons. That iridescence has more of a mirror like appearance. Further research shows that it also resembles Northwood\'s Tornado vase, however this is not a pressed piece of glass, it is hand blown. Another significant difference is, the eye of the applied vertical peacock trails is a single large eye in the center rather than a cluster of small beads. The form is a footed trefoil (European) cabinet form with an applied decoration on each outward ruffle. The trails run all the way to the bottom of the vessel where the foot is applied. It is expertly crimped as the ruffles are symmetrical and the inner neck of the tapered form measures approximately 1\" in diameter. Finally there is a soft iridescence with hues of blue, fuchsia and gold applied to the exterior and interior.

The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. This vasehas a counter sunk polished pontil. This is the finishing sign of a quality piece of art glass. The vase is very clean inside and shows virtually no signs of use. It appears to have been a cabinet piece most if not all of its life.

This is a lovely cabinet vase that is not so commonly found. I am leaning more toward Stuart & Sons than Webb based on the shape of the trailings. They are almost an identical match to Stuart & Sons method and appearance. I can only find one example in a green base glass with Stuart & Sons as most of the vases were clear with green trailings. This vase is a green base glass with green trailings and a slight iridescence. If I am attributing this correctly it would make this a very rare vase. This vase wasmade during the Victorian era late 1800 early 1900\'s.
