A rare c1840 William Gale Jr silver butter dish.

Junior was listed with Gale Sr. from 1843 on Fulton St.

This hallmark would indicate that Gale Jr. also ran his own shop

around the same time on Broadway, New York.

Raised circular with Greek key rim

and ruffled acanthus streaming from base.

Center leaf and floral streams on repeating scale surface.

Cover with urn and bell finial atop cascading leafy streams.

is 6 1/4 inches and 18 standard ounces.

Hallmarked WM GALE JR, 572-574 BROY NY

Gothic HBC (?) for the original owner.

In fine condition.

Rich, lustreous silver patina throughout.

Cover not quite flush to base.
