WILLIAM H. PICKERING (d. 2004) Director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, led the effort to place America\'s first satellite, Explorer I, in orbit, also oversaw the Ranger and Surveyor projects.

Fine lot of two signed items, includes an 8\" x 10\" b/w newspaper photo showing the lunar surface as first photographed by Ranger VII on July 31, 1964, signed and so dated by Pickering at bottom, along with atyped letter signed on Jet Propulsion Laboratory letterhead, 1p. 4to., Pasadena, Mar. 18, 1965 describing and sending the photo.
