Here is William Henry\'s explanation of the flaw.
Hi Mouzee,
Thank you for the pictures. There is nothing missing from your knife…the bolsters are cut from a diagonal section of a ‘rod’, and the void you see is the brass with a section without the niobium wires…and I know that’s not a very good explanation.
The ‘copper’ colored part is just that: copper. The dark part is thousands of tiny strands of niobium that are threaded through the copper. When we cross cut, the wire ends look like little dark circles.
William Henry T12- Superconductor. This is a limited edition with an amazing story. These bolsters are created from a copper- niobium composite bar originally built to move electricity in the world\'s largest super-collider. The funding for the project died and WHK was able to purchase some of this extraordinary material. Up close the bolster looks like a fine tapestry, but the weave is all solid metal. The Blade is ATS-34 / with Tungston DLC coating. Thumb stud is white Topaz. A snakewood handle completes #78/100
