This is a clipped signature, about 1\" by 3\". Appears to be clipped from an envelope as there is part of a postmark that does not touch the signature. It has light staining. And on the reverse, it has stains where it may once have been glued down. I believe it to be an authentic signature. William P. Fessenden served as Abraham Lincoln\'s Treasury Secretary from 1864 to 1865 after Salmon Chase left. He restored some confidence in the finances of the United States, in turmoil during the Civil War, and returned to the Senate. He was strongly anti-slavery. In the Senate, he voted against the impeachment of President Andrew Johnson. Fessenden died in 1869.
