This is a fabulous looking antique English silver tankard with ornate relief decoration as shown. There is an impressed period monogram to the front.
The tankard dates from the reign of King Willian IV and it stands 4\" tall with a top rim diameter of approximately 3.5\".
The assay marks are very rubbed indeed and unfortunately it is not possible to identify the maker; however under a magnifying glass you can just make out the date letter (r) for 1832.
A good gauge of silver it weighs in at 6.82 imperial ounces which equates to 6.21 troy or 193.3 grams.
The tankard has the typical light faint scuffs and scratches that all silver objects tend to attract over the years but there are no really serious dents or dings to report as far as I can tell. There is a little patch of surface disturbance on the gilt washed surface of the inner bowl area directly behind the monogram. Possibly a small repair but presumably a consequence of the application of the stamped monogram (which has a few tiny distortions around it on the outside surface). This little defect does not badly detract and I almost missed spotting it, however it has been highlighted here for honesty and accuracy of description.
I have tested and the tankard is still water tight, no leaks anywhere. It displays well and it would make a lovely gift for someone special.
No doubt a good polish will further restore former glory.
