I am reducing my long time militaria and police collections - this in my over 40 years of collecting is the only example I have seen of this particular style framed 1916 era Lord Kitchener memorial scroll!
It is contained in an original 14\" x 10.5\" period heavy wood frame with glass.
This wonderful memorial is title worded: \"In Memory Of Lord Kitchener of Khartoum Soldier Statesman and Administrator\".
Under Lord Kitchener\'s image the wording: \"Who answered the call of Lord Kitchener For His King and Country\" with the name above written in nice handwriting: \"Also Of Jack Bernard\" This handwriting is old (with the ink faded over these past 100 years) as antique black ink fades to a light grey colour.
It would appear that these memorial scrolls honoring Lord Kitchener\'s death in 1916 were meant to be bought by family and inscribed with the name of their also deceased loved ones in tribute as well to their sacrifice to the nation.
Being under glass it is hard to get details of the scroll but the title banner is flanked by furled Union Jack Flags and on either side are images of Kitchener\'s military service in Egypt - Indian - South Africa and Great Britain.
Also is a quotes from H.M The King on him and a scripture verse.
A fantastic example of a this rare WW1 patriotic tribute to the fallen which should be researchable having a soldier\'s name handwritten on it.
Please note that due to the fact that there is glass on the frame (I didn\'t want to disassemble the frame to remove it) it will have to be very well packaged for shipping hence the postage costs shown for well packaged - insured and tracked shipment by Canada Post.
