World War 1 German Army Medal Bar with Miniatures and Award documents:
$491.00

Up for sale is a very nice set of a WW1 Medal Bar with it\'s matching set of miniatures on a chain, the matching uniform ribbon bar, and the corresponding documents for each. In addition, the set includes a WW1 Wound Badge in black (first wound) and a Weimar Republic Civilian War Service Badge.
The medal bar consists of an Iron Cross Second Class, a Hamburg Cross, and a Hindenburg Cross. All three medals are in excellent condition with no damage to the medals or the parade mounted medal bar. The silver rim of the iron cross has normal age tarnished patina. The Hindenburg Cross is hallmarked \"PS\"; I can\'t see if the other two medals have hallmarks.
The miniature medal chain features all three of the same medals in miniature -- again all in excellent condition with no damage and just a little age toning to the iron cross\'s silver rims. They are high quality miniatures as would be expected from Godet, Berlin. The button of the chain is logoed \"Godet, Berlin\" in gothic print.
The Uniform Ribbon Bar has the correct ribbons for each of the three medals. This bar shows some soiling, some fading and some light wear to the ribbons. It was apparently worn frequently on the soldier\'s active duty uniform.
Similarly, the Wound Badge shows fairly extensive wear to the obverse, with the black paint worn off much of the helmet and the wreath. This is a hollow back, stamped badge. The reverse shows somer light corrosion and the hook is somewhat distorted. Again, this badge was apparently worn extensively on the soldier\'s active duty uniform.
The Weimar Republic War Service Badge is also in excellent condition with just some light soiling to the ribbon. This is the ribbon style later used on iron crosses from WW2.
Documents include the award document for the Iron Cross Second Class issued on December 19, 1915, the Hamburg Cross issued June 19, 1916, the Civilian War Badge issued December 1, 1921 (reverse taped) , and the Hindenburg Cross issued July 23, 1935. There is no document for the wound badge.
The soldier, Hermann Meffert from Hamburg, was a lieutenant in the \"Magazin - Fuhrparkkolonne\" or magazine vehicle supply train. He was older than your typical soldier, having been born in 1876 so was 39 years old at the time of his earning the iron cross second class. According to kaiserscross.com, the fuhrparkkolonne consisted of \"48 two span wagons\" whose perilous job it was to supply the front lines. \"The men of the supply units transported all that was necessary to fight a war to the immediate front line. On many occasions they braved enemy barrages to bring much needed supplies to the frontline troops who were sheltered in their dugouts.\"
Leutenant Meffert survived the war -- despite being wounded -- as evidenced by the lovely parade bar and subsequent veteran\'s medals. An excellent research opportunity.Overall, just a lovely original and unique set to a German Supply train officer from the Great war.
I acquired this set many years ago from a reputable dealer of German militaria and I guarantee the originality of it and offer a full refund in the event that the buyer feels that I have misrepresented it in any way.
