On display is a WW 2 New Testament Heart Shield Bible. The Heart Shield was a metal plate added to a standard issue Bible generally by a family member or loved one. The Heart Shield concept was designed to give the soldier some measure of protection over the vital heart area of the body. This one is made out of steel with 24 Karat Gold Plating and says \"May This Comfort and Protect You\". While it is not actually \"Bullet Proof\", this is a term that came to be associated with metal covered Bibles. As the name suggests it was designed to be carried in the breast pocket over the heart area to protect one from bullets or shrapnel. There is no rust visible on the front cover.

The rare part of this Bible is thatit has a letter from the President, Franklin Roosevelt, commending the reading of it to the troops. It is a unique part of American History and an Item that is made even rarer as it does not appear that the president any longer commends the reading of the Bible to all who serve in the armed forces of the United States as pictured above. The letter can be seen in the photos above.

In addition it is in pristine condition with a mirror type finish that made photography difficult to obtain because of lighting. Extra photos included to help above to help view.
