Description WWI British War Silver Medal w/ \"SPR A.W. Nickerson C.E.\" (recipient name) on edge lettering

The British War Medal is a campaign medal of the United Kingdom which was awarded to officers and men of British and Imperial forces for service in the World War I.

The medal is silver 36 mm in diameter, with a straight clasp suspender without swivel. Struck by the Royal Mint, the medal was designed by W. McMillan. The recipient\'s name, rank, service number and unit are on the edge of the medal.
Obverse
The obverse shows effigy of King George V facing left, with the legend \"GEORGIVS V BRITT: OMN: REX ET IND: IMP:\"
Reverse
The reverse shows Saint George naked on horseback and armed with a short sword, an allegory of the physical and mental strength which achieved victory over Germany. The horse tramples on the German eagle shield and a skull and cross-bones. The years \"1914\" and \"1918\" appear on the outer fields of the reverse
