This is a scarce and interesting original WWII letter, written in July 1944 by a Private First Class in the United States Marine Corps who was Killed in Action on D-Day of the Iwo Jima invasion, 19 February 1945. This marine was killed while serving in the 1st Battalion, 27th Marine Regiment, 5th Marine Division.
*** This letter was written in July 1944 by Private First Class Wilford W. \"Wick\" Mason, of Plainview, Texas. Pfc. Mason was Killed in Action on the 19th of February 1945, D-Day of the invasion of Iwo Jima. Pfc. Mason served in the 1st Battalion, 27th Marine Regiment, 5th Marine Division.
Pfc. Wilford \"Wick\" Mason was one of four brothers who served in the armed forces in World War Two. One of his brothers, Milford \"Mick\" Mason, was his identical twin. \"Mick\" Mason served in action in Europe. It appears that the Mason twins were both in love with the same girl in Plainview, Miss Francis Helm, who married \"Mick\" Mason in about early 1944. This appears to have caused some tension and friction between the Mason brothers.

According to the March 17th, 1945, edition of the \"Plainview Daily Herald\", Wilford \"Wick\" Mason was killed on 19 February, 1945. The same article states that his twin brother Milford was in France at the time, another brother (Henry) was a Master Sergeant stationed in Kansas, and the fourth brother (Johnny) was serving on the U.S.S. Alchiba, an attack cargo ship which served in action in the Pacific.

This 4 page letter is quite interesting. Pfc. Mason was worried that his brother \"Mick\" was angry with him for some reason. He hoped to resolve whatever had come between them. This is followed by a good account of a recent fight with some sailors:
\"Sure wish you had been with me the other night. I tangled with three sailors in the men\'s lounge at a dance. I won\'t go into details of the fight, but I layed all three sailors out like a light, and when the cops came in I left in a hurry with a black eye and busted fist. There was a Chief Petty Officer trying to help me, but I didn\'t have time to ask questions so I pasted him one too. He didn\'t stay for the count though. It all happened an about 2-4 mins.
I don\'t mean to be bragging, but stay clear of sailors by yourself. They will gang you every time. I\'m lucky I guess, because they could have killed me almost had I gave them the chance.
I wouldn\'t have got this black eye I don\'t think, but one sailor grabbed my neck and the other one pinned my arms to my side while the other one swinging. I saw it coming but couldn\'t do anything about it.
I had my field day when I broke away, and how. I had been drinking a little, and I believe it helped me.\"

The letter comes in it\'s original cover. The letter is written on Wilford Mason\'s personalized Marine Corps stationery.
