The name \'Caterpillar Club\' simply makes reference to the silk threads that made the original parachutes.Pin Awarded to S.J.E Dunn for parachuting out of a disabled aircraft.
At 22:06hrs on Wed 05 Aug 1942, 25 aircraft,17 to Essen 8 to Bochum Germany, the intention was to reach the target area by Gee & then bomb visually through gaps in the clouds. Only 3 aircraft bombed at Bochum & only 1 at Essen. The aircraft of the 102 squadron took off for the mission to Bochum Germany from RAF Topcliffe North Yorkshire, flying a Handley Page Halifax MK II serial W7706 code DY-O, bombing mission was planned for 06 Aug 1942. Crash landed at W Raynham Norfolk UK
