(EX Presidential Antiques and Coinssale 85, Lot 1329) (G2-29; CGI 3:21A) This is a Large 54 mm (about 2 1/8inch) in diameter, 75-gram (2.5 ounce) 1918 French Bronze Art Nouveau medalcommemorating America’s participation in WWI (1917-1918) by showing the Statueof Liberty with an sword in the raised arm and the sinking of the Lusitania onMay 7, 1915, by Rene’ Baudichon (1878-1963).The obverse legend, LUSITANIA MAY 7, 1915 is incused on a raised border,the width of which is varied to create a field similar to a round shied. Ahorizontal bar creates a thin chief at top in which a young girl is drowning.Below, the Lusitania is about to sink; an overturned lifeboat is theforeground. REV: LVRTIX AMERICA JVRIS(America, Avenger of the Law) 1917 U.S.A. 1918 is around a powerful depiction of theStatue of Liberty, a sword replacing her torch, rising from the very ocean intowhich the Lusitania had sunk.. Thismedal is in MINT CONDITION with a few spots, one of the nicest I’ve seen. It was produced by the Monnaie de Paris andis edge marked BRONZE with the Cornucopia Mint Mark.
