Here\'s the Extremely Rare 1960 Krewe of Rex (HAS) Gold Aluminum Doubloon (First Doubloon Ever Issued!!---Inventory Number RXG317). The doubloon measures 39 mm or 1 1/2\" in diameter and is in Excellent Condition. Payment due within 48 hours of purchase. Note: The obverse features the Rex Logo. The reverse features the Rex Coat of Arms and reads \"PRO BONO PUBLICO...MARDI GRAS...NEW ORLEANS.\" This doubloon was designed by H. Alvin Sharpe, the creator of the Mardi Gras doubloon, and bears his familiar \'HAS\' initials. This doubloon is undated but was issued in 1960 by the Krewe of Rex, the first time a \"doubloon\" was ever issued as a \"throw\" by a Mardi Gras Krewe. Mr. Sharpe had prevailed upon the Captain of the Krewe of Rex to commission him to create a new kind of Mardi Gras throw to be made of metal to stand the test of time and encapsulate the entire essence of a Mardi Gras Parade in an artistic design. The Captain requested that the doubloons ordered not be dated in the event they were not well received by the Rex Membership and Parade-Going Public, so these 1960 doubloons were undated so they could be used in succeeding years, if they proved unpopular. Well, quite popular they were and the rest is now history! This doubloon has a few very minor signs of wear, but is still in Near Pristine Condition, still retains most of its original luster and is a great example of the first Mardi Gras Doubloon Ever Issued! Only 3,000 of these 1960 Rex Gold Aluminum Doubloons were originally made and issued. These doubloons are extremely rare and very difficult to find in any venue.
