Here we have an exceptional antique Japanese statue of Jurojin, the Japanese Taoist Lucky God of Longevity. It is exceptionally large (14\" tall and weighing over 5 pounds) with exceptional colors (red, blues, mustard, green, and brilliant metallic gold) and exceptional moriage (widespread heavily raised enamel detailing on the robe, fan, and staff) and exceptional workmanship and craft (the open mouth with an actual mouth cavity, and the beautifully expressive face that brings to life Jurojin\'s kind and wise nature.)

This piece was given to my American grandmother by her new daughter-in-law\'s Japanese family to celebrate the marriage of her army son with his war bride just after the end of World War II. It is of much higher quality than other Jurojin statues typically offered on . [box code:BO]

This piece has no chips, cracks or crazing. Minimal loss of enamel and gold -- none that we can actually see but some is to be expected in any item of this age. Bright and colorful, with exceptional workmanship. In places here and there, the sharp edges of the robe are rough, possibly from a loss of enamel or from the tiniest of fleabites -- this is mainly a matter of touch more than anything else. This piece is not mint but only by being incredibly picky can we find fault with it.
