The Yorkshire Cup and The Dante Sweepstakes were the feature races.The Dante was won by the Noel Murless trained & dual classic winning St Paddy, ridden by Lester Piggott.
St. Paddy(1957–1984) was aBritishThoroughbredracehorseandsire. His performances in both 1960 and 1961 were instrumental in making his sire Aureole theLeading sire in Great Britain & Irelandboth years. St. Paddy was the winner of the 1960Epsom DerbyandSt. Leger Stakes.St. Paddy was retired after the 1961 racing season to stand atstudatBeech House StudinNewmarket. As a sire, he met with reasonable success, notably siringConnaught, winner of theEclipse StakesandJupiter Island, a multiplegraded stakes racewinner whose biggest success came in the 1986Japan Cup.St. Paddy was pensioned in 1981 and died in 1984 at the age of twenty-seven. He is buried at Beech House Stud.
