Yoruba House of the Head, Ile-Ori
9\" in diameter at the bottom, 18\" tall, 5\"-7\" fringe.
This Yoruba House of the Head beaded crownIle-Ori is dated early to mid-20th century.
It comes from Yorubaland, Nigeria.
The bird on top most likely indicates that the owner was of royalty.
The symbol of the Ori-inu (inner head) is a small conical object, which in in turn secreted in a larger container with a conical lide called ile-ore,
literally \"house of the head\".
Covered in cowrie shells shows an indication of welth and stature.
Given it\'s age, it is in excellent condition.
There are a few little spots that are missing a bead here and there.
It is amazingly heavy, fullyadorned with cowries and leatheron the outside.
The cowries have collected dust and dirt over the years.
Two of the four mirrors have a single crack running horizontal across them.Provenance:
