While living in Greenwich Village inthe sixties I knew of a little store off Bleecker that specialized inunderground comics. Every Fridayafternoon after work, I’d go there to see what was the latest version just hittingthe shelves, from Wilson, Griffin, Moscoso, Williams, Shelton or Crumb. With several of my hippy friends grooving, and laughing over Mr. Natural, Yellow Dog or the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers,we’d sit around that smoke filled room, sometimes late into the night.

Fast forward, some fifty years later – my wifeand I discovered some old cardboard boxes hidden behind junk in the back of ourstorage locker. It was a dry, cool placeand the hundreds of underground comics that had only been read once, were inbeautiful condition. It felt like wediscovered a pot of gold.

Wewrote to dozens of book and comic stores with a list of our inventory. They said, there was no interest, no marketand offered us little to nothing. We explained to them that these were completesets, first editions: Zap Comix, YoungLust, Weirdo, Snatch, Slow Death, Rip Off Comix, Hup, Fantagor, Fabulous FurryFreak Brothers, Cherry Poptart, Bizarre Sex, ArcadeComic Revue, just to name a few. To theretail outlets they were worthless, but to us they were priceless.

Nowwe offer them on and the collectors are grabbing them up, at our more thanreasonable prices. Many we had universallycertified with CGC, so you’ll know we’re trustworthy, reliable and have thebest of service. Just check the responseand reviews to know we’re honest and responsible. We are happy to answer any questions you mayhave and hope you buy them now while they still are available. First come, first serve.

By thefall of 1968, underground comix had evolved into the newest hip thing in thecounterculture, led by the three issues of Zap. Other artists began tojump in on the concept and a few more titles were launched, including Feds\'n\' Heads and Bijou Funnies. The fourth issue of Zap (#3) waspublished by the end of the year, and with Gilbert Shelton\'s contribution tothe book, he was invited to join the Zap Collective. The fifth issue (#4) wouldfollow in 1969, introducing Spain Rodriguez and Robert Williams to the series. That same year, Rodgriguez and Williams were the last two members invited intothe Collective. The seven artists in the fourth issue would contribute toalmost every issue of Zap in the next 35 years, except for Rick Griffin, who died in 1991.The creators of Zap never rested on their laurels and kept doing thingsthat had never been done in comic books before. They saved some of theirmost egregious sexual cartoons for Snatch and Jiz, but theyweren\'t afraid to let it all hang out in Zap as well.
