Welcome.

Click here to watch this item.Offered... an old and finest example of the work of Augustine and Rosalie Pinto, who are famous for this particular image of a mudhead dancer. They inlaid into shell using a raised three dimensional inlay technique for which they were credited as having innovated. Both Augustine and Rosalie are deceased so their work is rare to find outside of private collections and museums. It is highly coveted by knowledgable collectors of Southwest Indian Jewelry. I\'mincluding above a copy of a page from Bell about them with depicts this image. It\'s the image most often associated with their work. I\'ve owned this piece for many years; and have cherished it greatly. I\'m offering it from my private collection and it came to me from another private collection. This is a pendant enhancer, so the bail is open, and that allows you to add it to beads such as Navajo pearls. You can wear it on most any chain or beads, on coral, turquoise or silver beads, for example and because it\'s an enhancer, you can move it from one to another very easily.

This pendant is 4-1/2\" High x 2\" Wide with the dangles, which add about 2\" to the length. It is signed \"ARP Zuni NM\". It is sterling silver but it\'s not marked and that is typicalof those times. This piece seems to be an early example, probably dating to the 1950s. It\'s in excellent vintage, collectible and wearable condition with normal expectable age related wear. A rare element are the dangles in this one which include natural turquoise stones that have aged nicely, showing some variegated color change. The silver work is elaborate and beautiful, very fine and detailed, as is the inlay work.

Attributions on many of the old pieces of Native American jewelry are sometimes a moving target. All the books have errors, so in addition to counterchecking, I have developed some expertise over the years and I do care about getting it right, so as more information comes to light I update my listings and also get in touch with my previous buyers, to inform them of any changes in attributions. I am sincerely committed to ongoing accuracy.
