Vintage 1950s ZuniChannel Inlay Comanche Dancer by John LucioThis bolo tieisabeautifully made, Zuni (New Mexico) channel inlayComanche Dancerdesign. Although unsigned, the inlay isnicely done.On pp. 108-109 of T. Sei, Kachinas and Ceremonial Dancers in Zuni Jewelry, Schiffer Press, 2011, there are severalvirtually identicalbolo ties that Sei attributes to John Lucio. Based on these attributions, I am quitecertain that this bolo tie was also made by him. The choice of stones is typical of the 1950s: turquoise, jet, white mother-of-pearl, abalone, and spiny oyster.I can seevery littlefiller between the silver channels and the stones, which is evidenceof the exceptional skill of John Lucio. The tiewas made in the 1950s, as evidenced by thethree wire loops that attach the cord,a method commonly used in the 1950s and earlierbefore the invention of the Bennett clip in 1957(see thefourth photo below).

The bolo tieis1-7/8\" wide and 1-3/4\" tall, roughly the same size as those pictured in Sei\'s book.

The four-ply,black leather strap appears to be original, is still soft and pliable, and showsalmost nowear. The 2\" silver tipsare also the original ones (see the fifth photo below). I have left the original 1950s patina on both the tie and tips.
